Dorian Batiste, 22-Year-Old Beloved Community Member, Tragically Dies in Train-Truck Collision South of Amite, LA
Dorian Batiste tragically lost their life on March 25, 2026, following a fatal collision between a southbound Amtrak train and a pickup truck on Ponders Quarters Lane just south of the City of Amite, Louisiana.
At approximately 2:30 p.m., Dorian was ejected from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from the hospital.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office Major Crash team is investigating the circumstances of the incident, noting a potential brake malfunction may have contributed to the collision.
Although the railroad crossing involved does not have active warning lights or crossing arms, multiple safety signs are posted, reminding drivers to stop, look, and listen before crossing.
“This is a heartbreaking incident, and our thoughts remain with the family of Dorian Batiste,” officials said, emphasizing the importance of railroad safety and seatbelt use.
