Dr. Lawrence Alexander Larry Butler, Respected Ottawa Valley Veterinarian, Equine Figure, Parent, And Grandparent, Dies At 75 After ALS

Dr. Lawrence Alexander “Larry” Butler died on May 20, 2026, at age 75 after ALS, with family nearby.

Born on October 3, 1950, in New Liskeard, Ontario, Larry built an early connection with farming, sports, and veterinary care.

Larry graduated in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Guelph in 1974 and later completed advanced surgical training at Cornell University.

Across the Ottawa Valley, clients valued Larry’s calm judgment, skill with horses, and steady service at any hour.

Larry also bred and raced standardbreds across Ontario and New York while maintaining deep ties with the equine community.

Family members include children Jeffrey Butler with Leeanne and Andrew Butler with Jacqueline, grandchildren Ethan, Devon, Grayson, and Maeve, and siblings Karen Bruens and Jill Butler.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at Thee Farm, 4100 County Rd 43, Kemptville, ON, with a eulogy at 3:00 PM.
