Malik Perry, a respected urban planner and civil engineer, passed away in early March 2026 due to injuries sustained in a vehicular accident on the I-95 corridor in Maryland.

Perry, aged 42, was widely admired for his innovative work in sustainable urban development and transit equity, leaving a lasting mark on Maryland’s communities.

Born in 1983 in Silver Spring, Maryland, Perry developed an early interest in city planning and public transit networks. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2005, followed by a Master of City and Regional Planning from Morgan State University in 2008, where his thesis examined the impact of transit deserts in historically redlined neighborhoods.

Throughout his career, Perry combined technical expertise with community-focused solutions. He worked for the Maryland Department of Transportation and later founded Perry Urban Solutions, a Baltimore-based consultancy specializing in sustainable infrastructure and Transit-Oriented Development. His leadership on the Baltimore Green Corridors Initiative in 2019 introduced protected bike lanes, expanded pedestrian walkways, and green canopies that significantly improved local neighborhoods.

Colleagues remembered Perry as a generous mentor and a tireless advocate for urban equity. Social media tributes highlighted his profound impact, with many noting his dedication to building cities that serve all residents.
