Melissa Fields, Beloved Wilmington Resident, Dies at 49 in Tragic Greene County Car Accident Near Central State University

Melissa Fields, 49, of Wilmington, Ohio, tragically passed away Sunday night following a collision near Central State University, leaving friends, family, and the community in deep sorrow.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Fields was driving a 2022 Honda Civic northeast on U.S. 42 and attempting a left turn onto Hickman Road when a 2004 Honda Accord traveling southwest struck her vehicle. Both cars left the roadway and ended up in a ditch near the intersection.

Fields was pronounced dead at Miami Valley Hospital. The driver of the Accord, a 19-year-old, sustained minor injuries, while two 20-year-old female passengers were treated at a hospital for minor injuries. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.

Melissa’s life touched many in Wilmington. Friends and neighbors expressed heartfelt condolences on social media, with one noting, "Melissa had a kind heart and always made time for everyone around her," while another added, "Her loss is felt deeply by all who knew her. Rest in peace, Melissa."

Details regarding memorial services will be announced by the family, who hope to honor Melissa’s memory with a celebration of her life, kindness, and the positive impact she had on those around her.
