Benjamin Winston, 35, Remembered After Fatal I-26 Crash Near St. Matthews, South Carolina, On Saturday, May 16, 2026
Benjamin Winston, 35, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, passed away after a 2025 Honda CR-V left Interstate 26 near St. Matthews, South Carolina, around 12:20 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the vehicle traveled east near the 133-mile marker when it left the right side of the road and struck a concrete barrier.
Benjamin Winston rode in the front passenger seat, and the Calhoun County Coroner’s Office pronounced them deceased at the scene.
Three other occupants survived and received care at nearby hospitals, while officials had not released their conditions as of the May 18, 2026 report.
Authorities continue to review what led to the crash and asked anyone with information to come forward.
Benjamin Winston’s family, friends, and Winston-Salem community now mourn a life lost far from home, and memorial service details will be announced later by family members.
