Remembering Jocelyn Hernandez, 23, A West Haven Resident Who Died After A May 16 Woodward Avenue Car Collision In New Haven
Jocelyn Hernandez, 23, of West Haven, died after a car collision on Woodward Avenue in New Haven on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at about 1:27 p.m.
Hernandez rode in the front passenger seat when a southbound vehicle left the road near Connecticut’s coastline and struck a tree.
First responders removed Hernandez and the 20-year-old driver from Bridgeport from the damaged vehicle, while an 18-year-old back-seat passenger from Bridgeport was found outside the car.
Emergency crews took all three people to a nearby hospital, where medical staff later pronounced Hernandez dead from the harm sustained in the collision.
The driver remained hospitalized in critical condition, and the back-seat passenger sustained serious harm but was expected to survive.
New Haven Police Department investigators continued reviewing the cause and had not confirmed whether speed, road conditions, or seatbelt use played any role.
Family and friends remembered Hernandez as warm, gentle, caring, and deeply valued by those who knew the young West Haven resident.
Memorial service details and funeral arrangements will be announced later by family members.
