Cleavon White, 47, Tragically Passes Away Following Fatal Police Shooting in Rochester, MN

Cleavon White, 47, of Rochester, Minnesota, tragically lost their life on March 11, 2026, following a fatal encounter with police officers during a response to a mental health crisis.

Around 9:30 p.m. that evening, officers, accompanied by a crisis response social worker, arrived at an apartment on the 1900 block of Ashland Drive Northwest. White was reportedly acting erratically and appeared to pose a potential threat to themselves and others. When authorities attempted to place White under a 72-hour mental health hold, a struggle ensued.

During the altercation, White managed to grab an officer’s firearm, which was still holstered, leading to gunfire. Officer Josiah Duit, with three years of experience in law enforcement, discharged his weapon multiple times, striking White.

Medical aid was administered on-site, and White was transported to Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Marys campus, where they were later pronounced dead. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the incident.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is currently investigating the situation, and the findings will be submitted to the Olmsted County Attorney’s Office for further review.

Family members will announce details regarding memorial services in the coming days, and the community is remembering White as a deeply loved individual during this difficult time.
