Eddie Ray Hill Jr. died Tuesday morning, May 12, 2026, at the Texarkana Aluminum plant parking lot on Alumax Drive in Nash, Texas, after trying to help during a confrontation.
Authorities said Wendell Lane Champion Jr. had traveled from Hope, Arkansas, to the workplace of Candis Champion before the incident unfolded.
Eddie Ray Hill Jr. arrived for a shift and stepped in as the situation escalated, and the act placed Eddie in grave danger.
Candis Champion also suffered serious injuries and was taken to a Texarkana hospital, where reports listed Candis in stable condition.
Officials said Wendell Lane Champion Jr. had been released on parole in 2025 after a 2010 first-degree conviction connected to a Houston robbery that left a security guard deceased.
