Danny Ooley and Stacie Mason, Longtime Public Works Employees, Tragically Pass Away in a Double Shooting at Indian River County Library, FL

Danny Ooley, a dedicated and hardworking member of Indian River County’s Public Works Department, tragically passed away on March 24th, 2026. Danny, who had devoted nearly 25 years to the county, was found alongside Stacie Mason, a fellow employee, after a horrifying early morning shooting at the Indian River County Main Library parking lot in Vero Beach.

Danny, who had risen to the position of Assistant Director of Public Works, was known for his leadership, resilience, and commitment to the community. Stacie Mason, a traffic analyst technician with the department since 2014, was also highly respected for her professionalism and positive energy.

The two were found lifeless in the parking lot as the sun began to rise, leaving the community in shock. The loss of these two individuals, who collectively served the community for 35 years, has left a void that will be felt for a long time.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of both Danny and Stacie,” said a colleague. “Their dedication to our community was unmatched. They were more than just coworkers—they were friends, mentors, and pillars of support.”
